Fuel Poverty and Trade Unions

Fuel Poverty Action works with trade unions to address the urgent issue of fuel poverty, where many workers struggle to afford rising energy costs. Low-wage workers are hit hardest by the crisis, forced to choose between heating their homes and paying for essentials.

Protecting working class interests

Trade unions have always fought to protect workers’ rights. Tackling fuel poverty is an essential part of that struggle. FPA and union branches across the country have been working together to ensure affordable energy for all. By advocating for stronger policies and holding energy companies accountable, we aim to reduce the financial burden on low-income households.

Energy For All and collective action for change

The Energy For All campaign connects the cost of living crisis with the climate emergency, demanding a fair, sustainable energy system that serves the people, not the profiteers. Affordable, green energy must be a universal right. To achieve this, Fuel Poverty Action (FPA) and trade unions are taking direct action – through protests, campaigns, and grassroots mobilization – to hold energy companies accountable. We are challenging the system that lets energy companies exploit working-class families while they struggle to heat their homes. Our fight is for a fair energy system that puts people first, not profit.

The future we’re fighting For

We are not waiting for change; we are making it happen. FPA and trade unions are leading the charge for affordable energy as a fundamental right—no worker should have to choose between warmth and survival. We are fighting for a future where energy is seen as a public good, not a commodity to be controlled by the rich. It’s time to put working-class communities at the heart of the energy transition, not left behind in the cold.
