Our impact

FPA members and supporters have achieved some huge wins. You have helped expose the suffering millions in fuel poverty endure and forced the government into action.
Exposing the prepayment meter scandal
FPA have organised mass ‘warm-ups’, occupying local buildings to keep warm to shine a spotlight on the suffering caused by forced prepayment meter installations.
Our actions gained huge media attention, helped to secure a partial ban on forced installations of prepayment meters and helped win a reduction in prepayment tariffs.
We didn’t let suffering be swept under the carpet, and we’re keeping up the fight until there’s a permanent ban.
Lobbying loudly
This winter, FPA staff and members struggling with bills talked to over 60 MPs in a single day in our most recent parliamentary session. As Rachel Maskell MP puts it: “Fuel Poverty Action brings issues in Parliament to life. Their work on the Winter Fuel Payments has enabled many of us to make a more robust case to Government, and has been invaluable.”
We haven’t let ministers ignore the problems with our supporters have faced due to shoddy home improvements, corner-cutting, and cowboy contractors. The rollouts of the biggest insulation schemes – ECO4 and GBIS – haven’t been fit for their important purposes: to improve our homes and bring down our bills.
But after consistently bringing the problem to Minister Miatta Fahnbulleh’s attention, this January saw a huge win for thousands affected, as she announced new measures to put right problems with solid-wall insulation.
We’ll keep fighting for the hundreds of thousands of people who’ve had their homes damaged by poor-quality cavity wall and roof insulation, and for proper investment in the green skills needed to do retrofit right.
Fighting for Ofgem to work for us
Ofgem have consulted three times since 2024 on standing charges. Every time, we’ve pushed for mass responses from tens of thousands of people to beat the energy firm lobby, with clear verdicts that we want to see standing charges scrapped.
Under this huge pressure, Ofgem has been forced to offer standing charge free tariffs – but we’re not going to let them get away with lacklustre changes that overcomplicate our billing system and shift costs onto unit rates.
After years of campaigners showing up Ofgem’s failures, Labour has put them under review. We’ve joined forces with 38 Degrees, the NPC, Green New Deal Rising and the Peace & Justice project to gather nearly 90,000 signatures in a fortnight calling for Ofgem to work for us.
Building a mass movement
Over 660,000 people have signed our Energy For All petition. We’ve taken the proposal to forums all around the country, and hundreds of organisations and politicians backed our call.
Our membership is based all over the country, and we’re setting up local groups in key cities.
Our campaigns are reaching millions, with our spokespeople being invited onto BBC, ITV, and Sky News programmes and quoted in publications including The Guardian, The Mirror, The Independent, The Telegraph and many more.
