Where to get help and advice

Fuel Poverty Action is a campaigning organisation. We’re sorry we cannot provide one-to-one advice for the crisis so many of us are facing in paying for gas, electricity, or heat.
We recommend the following sources of help and advice:
- Citizens Advice has statutory (legal) powers to advocate for energy consumers in Great Britain. A comprehensive range of services can be accessed through their web page, including advice for those whose homes are part of a heat network. If you prefer to contact Citizens Advice by phone, dial 0808 223 1133, and select ‘energy advice’:
If you’re off-supply, at risk of going off supply, or can’t top-up because your debt repayment plan is unaffordable, ask Citizens Advice to refer you to The Extra Help Unit. You can make this an urgent request if you’re off-supply when you call.
If you’re in Scotland, the equivalent service is Citizens Advice Scotland.
- National Energy Action (NEA) provides advice and energy bill support to householders in England and Wales. The Scottish equivalent is Energy Action Scotland (EAS).
- Local Energy Advice Partnership (LEAP) is another advice service that offers FREE home visits to assess energy usage and identify ways you can reduce your bills and improve warmth.
- The Fuel Rights Handbook from Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG) contains comprehensive and detailed advice on bills, meters, legal rights and available help. It is updated every year.
